The Hope Shelter

The Hope Shelter was started in 1999 by Vishnu Jeelal,  in response to his interaction with many cases of domestic violence as a District Medical Officer.
The original vision was that of  a shelter built on an agricultural farm with Vegetable production, Animal husbandry etc.  as a source of income.
Mr. Jeelal was mainly concerned with the issue of  sustainability of the shelter. It became a tough battle.
However Mr. Jeelal has financially  supported the shelter for all of it’s existence.
In the last few years the shelter has received  support from the United Nations Development Programme for Vegetable production, along with a grant from the J.D. Fernandes Foundation.
The grant from The  J.D. Fernandes Foundation was used to erect a new building.
