The NGO Caribbean Development Foundation- Domestic Violence Campaign

The NGO Caribbean Development Foundation added another initiative to its violence against women campaign. The foundation launched its 2017 violence against women campaign with ‘‘A call to men” , a series of workshops held in 4 countries across the Eastern Caribbean and Trinidad. The workshop was held in Grenada, St. Vincent , St.Lucia and Trinidad between February 20th and March 30th ,2017.

The objective of the workshops was to include men in the solution to violence against women, by providing NGOs and individuals with the training on how to counsel men with a history of violence in the family and in their relationships.

The Cascadia Protocol

The foundation’s work on the issue of domestic violence is centered around the Non Governmental Organisations. Our work is meant to strengthen the sector so that they are better able to provide direct support to victims of domestic violence. Our campaign started with a regional conference held at the Cascadia Hotel in St. Ann’s Trinidad in September 2010. NGOs from across there region were brought to Trinidad, with the objective of having them put forward recommendations for coping with the issue of domestic violence in our region.

The petition below is a summary of some of the main recommendations put forward by  NGOs across the region after an extensive consultative process. The complete list of recommendations are to be found in the full Cascadia document below the petitions.

About The Cascadia Protocol

The Cascadia protocol is the key component of the NGO Caribbean Development Foundation’s violence against women campaign. The protocol is the result of an extensive consultative process with Non governmental organisations (NGOs) and other stakeholders across the CARICOM area. The recommendations in the protocol are based on the feedback from the consultative Forums held in each CARICOM country. The petition summarizes the key recommendations in the Cascadia Protocol document.

The aim of the recommendations in the protocol is to provide regional governments with broad based policy guidelines for the implementation of programs and procedures that will directly and indirectly provide women experiencing violence in the home with a greater level of support and protection. The Protocols for Trinidad & Tobago, Suriname, Barbados and Guyana are the first to be released, and will be followed by the release of the document in other CARICOM states at a later date. The recommendations in the document for each country, are based on the feedback from the consultative forums held in each country
